Dr. Dexter McKenzie, MD is experienced in academic and community-based medicine. He is also an expert organizer and community educator committed to advancing the field of medicine and improving the health and wellbeing of underrepresented minorities and all people.
Dr. McKenzie graduated with honors from Meharry Medical College in Nashville Tennessee, holds degrees in chemistry and pharmacy and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He completed residency training at historic Kings County Hospital and is currently appointed assistant professor of medicine at S.U.N.Y Health Science Center at Brooklyn. He has spent close to two decades training resident physicians, teaching medical students and safeguarding the health of Brooklyn residents through direct hands-on care as a community physician and educator. Dr. McKenzie is renowned for leadership roles at the community level.
Dr. McKenzie serves as president of the Brooklyn affiliate of the National Medical Association (Provident Clinical Society) representing the collective voice of Brooklyn's black physicians. He also serves with distinction as chairman of the health committees of the New York Chapter of the National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS as well as the Metropolitan Council of NAACP branches, as well as the Brooklyn branch.
Dr. McKenzie has served on numerous community and institutional boards and taskforces and has participated in the development and implementation of many community-based health and education initiatives. As a result of these and other involvement, Dr. McKenzie has been the recipient of scores of awards and honors from federal and local government, institutions, peer and students. After years of dedication and commitment Dr. McKenzie has developed a wealth of knowledge and experience germane to the advancement of the field of medicine as well as the betterment of the health of underrepresented minorities and all people. |
