Coran James works as a coordinator at the Brooklyn Center of the Executive Leadership Institute, the professional arm of the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators, NYC, New York State Federation of School Administrators, Local 1 AFSA, AFL-CIO. Ms James mentors first year assistant principals and co-teaches in the School Based Intermediate Supervisors Institute (SBISI) workshops.
Prior to joining the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators (CSA), Ms James was the principal of Freedom Academy High School. She has enjoyed a thirty-one year career with the New York City Department of Education. She worked as a teacher, guidance counselor and administrator.
Ms James continues to serve the New York City Public Schools through the NAACP Brooklyn Branch - Leadership, Achievement, Education, Direction (L.E.A.D.) Mentoring Program in selected elementary, middle schools and high schools. She coordinates the annual NAACP Brooklyn Branch Back to School/Stay in School Program, designed to help provide children with critical academic and social supports, that distributes free backpacks with essential school supplies to hundreds of New York City public school students.
Ms James is also working with the New York City Department of Juvenile Justice, Brooklyn Crossroads Juvenile Center, implementing a tutoring and mentoring program at the center and providing donated books to the centers' library.
Ms. James supports and promotes the tenets of the NAACP to eliminate educational disparities and promote educational excellence.
Ms. James received her Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Brooklyn College and a Masters of Science degree from Hunter College in Guidance and Counseling. She attended Bank Street College of Education, Supervision and Administration, Howard University , Urban Education, and New York University Steinhardt School of Education.
She is a member of the National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE), Secretary-Elect of the Retired Educators Commission. She is a member of the Central Brooklyn Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr . Commission, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter and a J. William Fulbright Foreign/Brazil Exchange Administrator. . |
