L. Londell McMillan, Esq., is Chairman of The McMillan Firm and NorthStar Business Enterprises, Inc. He specializes in entertainment and sports law, business operations, and public advocacy. McMillan’s elite clients include recording artists, professional athletes, authors, executives and businesses in the communications, media, entertainment, retail and real estate industries. McMillan is one of the co-owners, along with real-estate developer Bruce Ratner and hip-hop artist Jay-Z, in purchase of the New Jersey Nets, a National Basketball Association (NBA) team. He and the other co-owners intend to bring the celebrated franchise to his hometown of Brooklyn, New York City, as part of a major 2.5 billion dollar mixed-use commercial, retail and residential development project.

Over the years, McMillan has represented leading artists and musical icons, such as Prince, Stevie Wonder, Roberta Flack, Chaka Khan, Usher, D’Angelo, Faith Evans, Ciara, L.L. Cool J, Kanye West, Nas, DMX, Wesley Snipes, Spike Lee, Russell Simmons and many others. In addition, McMillan’s legal expertise is demonstrated by his representation of other prominent clients, such as Mercedes Benz, The New York Times, the Source Magazine and Radio One.

McMillan was the recipient of the prestigious MBBA Haywood W. Burns, Lawyer of the Year Award in 2001. He was featured on the cover of the Black Enterprise December 2003 issue, and is recognized as one of America’s top lawyers. Additionally, McMillan was included in Crain’s 100 Most Powerful Minority Leaders in 2003, alongside Ken Chenault, Stanley Oneal, Russell Simmons and Richard Parsons.

Before founding his firm on Martin Luther King Day in 1997, McMillan established himself as a leading entertainment and media lawyer with the law firm of Gold, Farrell & Marks. During McMillan’s early years as an attorney, he practiced corporate law at the prestigious law firm of LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae, L.L.P., where he counseled multi-media companies (i.e., Time-Warner Cable and The Discovery Channel), private and publicly-held corporations and financial institutions. Prior to joining LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae, L.L.P., he worked with Athletes and Artists, Inc., as a sports agent, while attending law school.

In December 1989, McMillan was co-founder of the New York City Minority Roundtable for large corporate law firms, in association with the Bar Association of the City of New York. While in law school, McMillan served as Northeast Regional Director of the National Black Law Students Association. He is a faculty member at the Practicing Law Institute, a featured subject of a Harvard Business School case study, and author of numerous published legal articles and periodicals. McMillan has served on the Alumni Council of the Cornell Board of Trustees at Cornell University, and alumni boards at New York University School of Law.

Born in the Tompkins houses of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, McMillan is a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School, the School for Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University, and New York University School of Law. He is admitted to practice law in the States of New York and Connecticut, and is a member of the American Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and the New York State Bar Association.

McMillan has received numerous honors, awards and citations, and appears regularly as a commentator on television, radio programs and other forums. He resides in Brooklyn, New York City.
