ACT-SO

ACT-SO is a major youth initiative of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Founded in 1978 by renowned author and journalist Vernon Jarrett, ACT-SO provides a forum through which African-American youth can demonstrate academic, artistic and scientific prowess and expertise, thereby gaining the same recognition often only reserved for entertainers and athletes.

The Education Committee of the Brooklyn Branch is committed in its work to support and promote equality of educational opportunities for people of color and other minority groups. The committee is tireless in its advocacy for effective, accountable and accessible public school systems, and for adequate and equitable school funding.
The work of the Membership and Life Membership Committee is vital to the growth of the Brooklyn Branch. The committee is responsible for the recruitment and retention of members, and works throughout the year to maintain and increase Brooklyn Branch members.
